What benefits can I get from my programming except get a job?

Most of us code for fun and profit: it’s our job and we enjoy the programming. But… what if your job isn’t as great as you want, or doesn’t make you as much money as you’d want? You’d surely go look for another job, but what if you think you are not good enough for a better-paying job? Food for thought.
